SUSAN MARSHALL knows that timing is everything in the music business. With her album release “My Own Time” hitting the 20′s in the National Americana Chart, the time is right for Susan’s cutting edge, American roots music. Blending the sounds of early rock, rock-a-billy and alternative country, the CD features “a varied repertoire…all the styles that delight us…one to relish in it’s entirety with no misgivings”, says France’s Nashville Boulevard. Top country music reviewer Robert Oermann called a cut from the disc, “a real throwback performance…recalls the late 50′s…a pure country delivery…so pure it’s almost unbelievable”. A3 rock station WRLT’s Jon Peterson described Susan’s music as “honky tonk music in an alternative way”.
Some prominent Music City musicians were rounded up for this album including Grand Ole Opry steel player Weldon Myrick, Jason & the Scorcher’s guitarist Warner Hodges, the Maverick’s keyboard player Jerry Dale McFadden, and the legendary guitar great Duane Eddy.
Branded as Nashville’s first female “Alternative Country Rocker”, Susan Marshall came to Music City as a background singer just after high school graduation in New Jersey. She landed a job on Music Row and began working with some of Nashville’s top songwriters while developing her own “rock’n'western” style as a singer/songwriter.
After signing with highly innovative independent label Reptile Records, her debut album “Don’t Play Innocent With Me”, was released. It received worldwide attention and excellent reviews in many publications and a single from the album reached TOP 10 in Cash Box. That helped open the door for Susan to perform in Europe and the US with other similar artists including Dwight Yoakam, Emmylou Harris, the Iguanas, the Cactus Brothers, Rank & File, Webb Wilder and led to a best country artist nomination in the Nashville Music Awards.
Receiving radio airplay on Americana, country, college, alternative and AAA rock stations and performing on both country and rock live shows Susan Marshall, is truly a crossover artist. Since being discovered at a Nashville show she has gained international acceptance with her CD releases on DixieFrog Records, based in Paris. In Europe she has reached as high as #2 on country, rock, alternative, and pop radio playlists. Susan is also included on ArcadeRecords Country Collection CD of top country artists and Musidisc France’s Deep South: American Music CD. With airplay on hundreds of radio stations, videos on CMT, TNN and Much Music in Canada, live performances throughout the US and Europe, and other artists recording her songs, Susan is rapidly building a strong following.
Live performances, such as Nashville outdoor festival Dancin’ In The District, demonstrate just what Europe’s Show Magazine stated, “her stage presence is one of her best attributes“. When Susan is performing her original roots rockin’ country, this Marshall knows how to capture audiences all over the world!
